Four local Cadets have been honoured by former Mayor of Bath, Loraine Morgan-Brinkhurst MBE.
The four Cadets were selected for the 2014 Bath & North East Somerset Cadet Achievement Awards from four Army Cadet Force (ACF) Platoons in the area for their outstanding achievements within the ACF.
The ceremony was held on Tuesday March 18 at the Guildhall in Bath and it was Bath Cadet Tyler Tonkinson, aged 13, from Bath Platoon who took home the Outstanding Cadet award.
Highly Commended Cadet awards went to Cadets Max Feeney, 17, of Midsomer Norton Platoon, Jordon Corp, 16, of Paulton Platoon and Alice Bishery, 13, of Bechem Cliff Platoon.
Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Elizabeth Gass, attended the event as she has a close relationship with the county’s Cadet Units.
She commented: “I have been privileged to be involved with cadets from Somerset ACF for number of years and hope that after my retirement from the appointment of Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset I can be as closely involved as before.”
Others in attendance included Councillor Neil Butters (Chairman B&NES Council), Ms Morgan-Brinkhurst, Colonel Paul Richardson, Commandant Somerset Cadet Battalion (The Rifles) ACF, and Major Barry Angus, Officer Commanding Normandy Company.
Nominations for the awards within the Bath & North East Somerset area were announced by Cllr Butters and Ms Morgan-Brinkhurst before each of the four cadets received their certificates from Cllr Butters and Lady Gass.
Colonel Richardson said: “It is awards like this that really make the cadets feel proud of their perseverance and achievements as well as making the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers feel that they have contributed something worthwhile for their cadets.”
