An officer in the successful 1955 (Wells) Squadron, Air Training Corps, has been honoured with the award of the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.
Neil was himself a cadet at Wells and a former pupil at the Blue School. He returned as an instructor about 12 years ago, admitting “I missed it.”
A focus of his current role is supporting adventurous training activities and participation in the annual Ten Tors event. He also works with the Wing training team, where he is Deputy Warrant Officer.
“Recruitment for the cadets can be quite challenging these days,” he admits. “But once youngsters have been with us for three or four months and are starting to enjoy the huge range of activities, they usually stay for three or four years.”
Neil works as a bricklayer and he and his wife Sam have five-year-old twin girls, Caitlin and Chloe.
Big event for the Wells cadets next year will be a visit to Canada.
