DEVON COUNTY HONOUR FOR EXMOUTH SOLDIER

A 47-year-old Exmouth man has been honoured for his service with 6th Battalion, The Rifles, with the award of HM Lord-Lieutenant of Devon’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

The presentation to S141021WX-PR-South-Devontaff Sergeant Simon Reed took place during ceremonies at County Hall, Exeter.

Simon joined the Army in 1984 and moved to Headquarter Company at Exeter in 2007, taking over as Permanent Staff Armourer.

The ceremonies included the appointment of young people as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for the next year, a role which includes attendance at a number of official engagements. They were chosen on their merits within their respective Cadet forces, but also for their dedication and work within the local community. The line-up included:

  • Matthew Palmer, aged 17, Cadet Company Sergeant Major, Teignmouth Detachment, Army Cadet Force.
  • Harry Neve, aged 18, Cadet Warrant Officer, 1064 (Honiton) Squadron, Air Training Corps.
