The Help for Heroes Plymouth Naval Service Recovery Centre at HMS Drake has been recognised for the high level of support they offer their Reserve employees, after being presented a Silver Award under the Employer Recognition Scheme.
Jock Eastern, the General Manager of the state-of-the-art facility in Plymouth, was presented with the certificate signed by the Secretary of State for Defence and the Chief of the Defence Staff, by the Lord Lieutenant of Devon at recent ceremonies in Exeter.
The Recovery Centre was developed by Help for Heroes at HMS Drake in Plymouth to provide both serving and veteran members from all three services a state-of-the-art environment to help aid their recovery.
Jock Eastern, who has been central to the project from the start, said: “It has always been about non-militarising it and making it modern, so that people referred to us can just some in and use the facilities on offer”.
The site situated in HMS Drake incorporates Parker VC; a specialist adaptive accommodation facility which has 60 cabins, six family rooms and a conference facility, as well as the Endeavour Centre; a purpose built recovery complex which offers state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment. The centre includes a 25 metre swimming pool with height adjustable floor, sprung floor gymnasium, fully adaptive Cardio Vascular equipment, hydrotherapy pool as well as physiotherapy suite with purpose designed clinical treatment rooms.
Ex-Royal Marine Marty Aldrich, a Help for Heroes Rehab and Physical Development Manager at the Recovery Centre in Plymouth, is also a Reserve with 6 Rifles based in Exeter.
