They included 39-year-old Corporal Neil Kelly, Platoon Commander at Swindon, 7th Battalion, The Rifles, who began his career at Southampton University Officer Training Corps 20 years ago.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire’s Certificate for Meritorious Service was also awarded to:
- Corporal Elizabeth Diamond, aged 37, who leads the medical section at B (Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry) Squadron, Swindon.
- Swindon-born Staff Sergeant Joseph Craig, aged 49, of 280 Movement Control Squadron, Royal Logistic Corps, Swindon.
The ceremonies included the appointment of young people as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for the next year, a role which includes attendance at a number of official engagements. They were chosen on their merits within their respective Cadet forces, but also for their dedication and work within the local community. Representatives from the Swindon area are:
- Callum Bird, aged 18, Cadet Flight Sergeant, 633 (West Swindon) Squadron, Air Training Corps.
- Elizabeth Lawton, aged 16, Leading Cadet, Swindon Sea Cadet Unit.
