BATH’S OWN ARE BEST IN BRITAIN — AND NOW THEY’RE WINNING AWARDS TOO!
Bath’s 93 (City of Bath) Squadron RAF- Air Cadets is celebrating an extraordinary double success after two of its members were honoured at the His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Awards at Taunton Racecourse.
The awards come during an exceptional year for the Squadron, which has won the national competition to be named the best RAF Air Cadet Squadron in the country.
Flight Lieutenant Chelsea Ollason, Officer Commanding 93 Squadron, received His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service, recognising her outstanding leadership and commitment to developing young people.
Since joining the Squadron as a volunteer in 2019, Chelsea has helped transform its fortunes, leading the unit through the challenges of COVID and subsequent rebuilding. Under her leadership, the Squadron has grown in strength, opportunities and ambition — culminating in its remarkable national success.
Also honoured was Cadet Flight Sergeant Ewan Glossop, who was invested as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for Somerset.
Ewan has been a member of the Wing and Regional Drill Teams, serves as Squadron Banner Bearer and Drum Major, and regularly gives their time to support community events including the Bath Half Marathon and Bath Festival of Motoring.
Lt Col (rtd) Mark Shelford, Chair of the Somerset Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, said:
“This is a fantastic achievement for Bath and a hugely proud moment for 93 Squadron.
“To have Chelsea and Ewan recognised at the Lord-Lieutenant’s Awards in the same year that the Squadron has been named the best RAF Air Cadet Squadron in the country is a remarkable achievement.
“It demonstrates the outstanding leadership, commitment and talent we have within 93 Squadron — from its cadets and adult volunteers to everyone who supports them.
“Bath should be incredibly proud of them.”
The double recognition caps an outstanding year for 93 (City of Bath) Squadron, which continues to demonstrate the impact that dedicated volunteers and ambitious young people can have both within the Cadet Forces and across the wider Bath community.
