Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) are the backbone of the Cadet Forces and their dedication shapes the lives of thousands of young people across the Wessex region.

Whether supporting the Army Cadets, RAF Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, or Combined Cadet Force (CCF), adult volunteers lead training, mentor young people, and help deliver life-changing opportunities in leadership, adventure, and personal development. No prior military experience is needed—just enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

Volunteers take part in everything from fieldcraft and flying to Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programmes and overseas expeditions. In return, CFAVs receive high-quality training, gain nationally recognised qualifications, and become part of a rewarding and supportive community.

Wessex RFCA works closely with all Cadet Forces across the South West to support the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers—ensuring cadet units continue to thrive.
