The post of Cadet Commandant is a voluntary appointment for a three year tenure, extendable by a further two years if agreed by HQ South West and the incumbent, and also considered as being in the best interests of Bristol ACF.
Under the regulations for a Cadet Force Commission, the successful applicant will assume the substantive rank of Lieutenant Colonel with the unpaid acting rank of Colonel, if qualified by nature of having held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Regular, Reserve or Cadet Forces for a minimum of 3 years. They will also be eligible for up to a maximum of 50 days’ “Volunteer Allowance” and will be entitled to residence to place of duty and motor mileage allowances whilst on official duty.
Candidates should ideally have held the paid rank of Major or above/equivalent in the Regular Forces, Reserves or Cadet Movement and should be under the age of 62 or ideally 60 years of age on the date of application.
It is a requirement under the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Code of Practice that this position requires an ‘Enhanced Disclosure’ prior to appointment.
