Bath Cadets

A dedicated Somerset Army Cadet Force Adult Volunteer has been recognised for nearly two decades of service, supporting young people .

Captain Kym Booker, Officer Commanding Bath Detachment, was presented with a Wessex RFCA Recognition Coin by the County Chair for Somerset, recognising 17 years of commitment to the Cadet movement and the young people it serves.

Throughout her time as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer, Captain Booker has helped hundreds of young people develop confidence, leadership skills, resilience an teamwork through participation in the Army Cadets. Her work has also supported the development of follow volunteers, helping ensure opportunities remain available to young people in the local community.

Cadet Force Adult Volunteers play a vital role in the delivery of the cadet experience. Giving their time freely, they organise training, mentor young people and provide a safe and supportive environment in which young people can learn new skills, challenge themselves and build lasting friendship.

During the recent visit to Bath Detachment, Colonel Mark Shelford, Somerset County Chair for Wessex RFCA, was able to see this impact first hand. He said:

“Volunteers like Captain Booker are the backbone of the Cadet movement. 17 years of service represents an extraordinary commitment to young people and to the wider community. The Cadet Forces offer some of the finest youth development opportunities available anywhere in the country. They help young people build confidence, discipline and life skills whilst creating lasting friendships and a sense of service. Bath Platoon should be enormously proud of what it is achieving.”

Bath Detachment currently supports 25 cadets, with additional recruits expected to join over the coming months. The detachment is delivered by a team of committed volunteers who work together to provide young people with opportunities for personal development, adventure and achievement.

The Army Cadet Force is on of the UK’s largest voluntary youth organisations, providing opportunities for young people aged 12 to 18 to develop practical skills, leadership qualities and self confidence through a wide range of activities and experiences.
