Voluntary role – Deputy Commandant Somerset Army Cadet Force


Applications are invited for the position of Deputy Commandant Somerset Army Cadet Force, based at Taunton.  The post will become available in September 2021.

The post of Deputy Commandant is a voluntary appointment for a three-year tenure, extendable by a further two years if agreed by HQ South West and the incumbent and considered as being in the best interests of Somerset ACF.

Under the regulations for a Cadet Force Commission, the successful applicant will assume the substantive ACF rank of Major and will be entitled to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel subject to the completion of the necessary Cadet Force courses and training. 

They will also be eligible for up to a maximum of 28 days’ “Volunteer Allowance” and will be entitled to residence to place of duty and motor mileage allowances whilst on official duty.

Candidates should have held the paid rank of Major or above/equivalent in the Regular Forces, Reserves or Cadet Movement and should be under the age of 62 or ideally 60 years of age on the date of application.

It is a requirement under the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Code of Practice that this position requires an ‘Enhanced Disclosure’ prior to appointment.
