Sherborne Girls Pupil takes up prestigious national CCF role

04.02.2026

A pupil from Sherborne Girls took part in an investiture ceremony last month on board the HMS Victory as she took up her role as First Sea Lord’s Cadet.  Rosie is in the Lower Sixth (Year 12) at Sherborne Girls where she is a leading member of the School’s thriving CCF.  As one of three First Sea Lord’s Cadets she will represent CCFs across the UK at national events; it is a highly competitive national role which recognises exceptional leadership, commitment and service within the CCF Royal Navy and Royal Marines sections.

Every year, only three cadets are chosen from among 22,000 across the country to represent the organisation at national events as First Sea Lord’s Cadets, giving them a rare glimpse into the careers of senior Royal Navy officers. Rosie’s selection places her among this exceptional group of young leaders.

Rosie said of her role, “This role is a huge honour for me; to have been considered and then offered this incredible opportunity is something for which I am so grateful.

I am so excited to represent the cadet forces from all over the UK and demonstrate the values of empathy, motivation and initiative the CCF has drilled into me over the years. It is something so special; the experiences and life lessons I have gained from this is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.  The CCF has taught me that it is okay to push myself to the absolute limit, and I want every young person in the nation to experience that and begin to enjoy coming face to face with challenges.”

Paul Wilson, School Staff Instructor and Military Families Tutor said,

“Rosie is an outstanding role model and ambassador for Sherborne CCF. She consistently inspires our cadets, particularly our female cadets. She is kind, engaging, and personable; generous with her time and support of other cadets; demonstrates absolute competence; and serves as an exemplary role model for young people. Rosie fully embodies the Royal Marines’ core values. She is also exceptionally tough and displays remarkable resilience. I have observed Rosie outside of CCF, where she is equally impressive.”

The Combined Cadet Force at Sherborne Girls is thriving with more than 100 cadets from enrolled across the three sections of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Army.   Our Cadets are supported by experienced staff, including military veterans and personnel from the Cadet Training Team.   Please find out more about Sherborne Girls’ CCF here.
