Employers Inspired by Ten Tors Challenge and the Power of Cadet Support

Wessex RFCA was delighted to host a number of supportive employers from across the South West at this year’s Ten Tors Challenge, held on Dartmoor last weekend.

The event provided a unique opportunity for employers to witness the strength, resilience and determination of thousands of young people taking part in one of the UK’s most iconic youth endurance events.

The Ten Tors Challenge sees 2,400 teenagers, split into 400 teams of six, attempt routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles across the northern half of Dartmoor. Each team must navigate to ten nominated tors or checkpoints over the course of two days, with minimal external support. It is a challenge that demands teamwork, planning, physical endurance and mental fortitude – qualities that were on display in abundance throughout the weekend.

Employers in attendance not only witnessed the scale and significance of the event, but also heard first-hand about the vital role played by Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs), many of whom help train and support these young people in preparation for Ten Tors. Discussions also centred on the broader benefits of employing Reservists and how businesses can positively engage with and support the cadet movement.

Speaking after the event, Defence Relationship Manager Emily Kadoch said;

“Ten Tors is always a highlight in the calendar, but sharing it with employers who are passionate about youth development and committed to supporting our volunteer and reservist communities made it all the more meaningful. The conversations we had were inspiring, and it’s clear that many of our guests left with a renewed sense of how they can make a tangible difference.”

The event reinforced the deep connections between the Armed Forces community and the civilian workplace, and highlighted the shared values of leadership, discipline, service and resilience.

Wessex RFCA looks forward to continuing these conversations and working alongside employers to expand opportunities and support for both Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and the young people they help shape into future leaders.
