Regional Shooting Officer (Voluntary Role)

Wessex RFCA is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to being the essential, effective, and enduring partner that supports and enables tri-service Reserves, Cadets, and the wider Armed Forces community across the South West.

Role Overview:

Applications for the volunteer role of Regional Shooting Officer for HQSW are now invited from suitably qualified and experienced members of the Army Cadets. JMC HQs, CCF contingents and ACF counties are requested to forward to suitable candidates. A Volunteer Role Description, Application Form and Summary of Relevant Experience, Skills and Qualification Form is available online on the Army Cadet website with this advert.

Before applying, candidates should confirm that they meet all the requirements for membership of the Army Cadets as set out in AC 14233 The Army Cadet Force Regulations. Exceptionally, candidates with extensive senior leadership in other youth, community or voluntary sectors will be considered. It is also a requirement of all volunteer roles in the Army Cadets that an enhanced disclosure check is completed prior to appointment if this has not already been requested through a MOD organisation.

Candidates should submit a letter including a 250-word personal statement setting out the relevant skills and experience that would qualify this for this role. Candidates should also complete an application form and provide references for two individuals and the Summary of Relevant Experience Form. Once completed, these should all be sent to Col Rob Guest, rguest@armymail.mod.uk Candidates should also arrange for a letter supporting their application from their JMC Commander, Colonel Cadets, Contingent Commander or Commandant as appropriate.

Applications must be submitted by 1600hrs on Friday 1 May 2026. Submissions made after this time may not be accepted.

It is expected that interviews for this volunteer role will take place virtually in
June/July 2026, and the successful candidate will be notified shortly after the interviews. The initial appointment period in this volunteer role is three years, subject to review.

This volunteer role is a primary or secondary appointment initially for a three-year period. You will remain with your current CCF contingent or ACF county for administration purposes while in the volunteer role. Allowable expenses can be reimbursed. Volunteer Allowance (VA) may be claimed for certain approved activities, up to 16 days per year subject to prior approval. The rules on expenses and VA are covered in AC14233 The Army Cadet Force Regulations for members of both the CCF Army Section and the ACF.

It is a requirement of all volunteer roles in the Army Cadets that a satisfactory and in date enhanced disclosure check is completed before appointment where this is not already recorded on Westminster
